When do you need a birth certificate translation?
Visa applications
The Department of Home Affairs requires a NAATI-certified translation of your birth certificate for most visa subclasses, including Partner visas (820/801), Skilled Worker visas (subclass 189, 190, 491) and Student visas (subclass 500). Your application will not progress without it.
Australian citizenship applications
If you were born overseas and are applying for Australian citizenship by conferral, you must provide a certified English translation of your foreign birth certificate as proof of identity and date of birth.
University enrolment
